My preferred building location will be on the Brooklyn site. The site analysis can be found here. So far, this will be the expected program, for now. The square footage is just an estimate as I am still exploring for more necessary rooms/spaces. Since the site is located right across the Brooklyn Bridge Park, I would like to emphasize the galleries, communal spaces, library/cafeteria as more important areas since I would like to position them in ways to take advantage of the Manhattan skyline views and also to try and blend the park with the school through welcoming spaces.
- Lobby – 2500sf
- Restrooms – 2200sf (4 men) (4 women) + 750sf ( faculty)
- Galleries – 9,000sf (includes 1 large & 2 small)
- Cafeteria – 3,000sf
- Auditorium- 12,000sf
- Storage – 3,500sf
- Studios – 18,000sf
- Labs – 3,000sf
- Offices – 7,500sf
- Library- 10,000
- Communal spaces – 5,000
Total 75,700SF
Hello Renz,
ReplyDeleteBy your comments it seems that you are moving towards an extrovert concept as you emphasize on the communal spaces. Be rigorous about it. If you are blending with the park then you have to give back to the city.
If your main spaces are open to the public and the city think of proposing interactive learning methods and your design as a continuous feedback btw the city and your building.
In that case, I propose again to think your proposal as a building that captures all kinds of information from the city, smells, colors, sounds, decodes them and projects them back to the city differently.
(look at francoise roche and his concepts, project Dustyrelief)
Best,
